Dr Anna Brooks

Princess of Wales Hospital Bridgend Mid Glamorgan Wales

My name is Dr Anna Brooks. I am a Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered Principle Psychologist with a Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology. I am accredited as a supervisor with the British Association of Behavioural & Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP), and I am a Chartered Clinical Psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS). I work in South Wales and I am trained in a range of therapeutic approaches including Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT). I have worked in NHS Services for thirteen years and specialised in working with older people with a range of mental health presentations including cognitive functioning difficulties.  I have also worked with people children and adolescents who have experienced a wide range of difficulties including depression, anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), fluctuating moods/emotional instability, trauma based difficulties, personality disorders, relationship difficulties and low self-worth/shame.

In my professional experiences so far, I am always struck by the theme of self-criticism and shame that many people experience.  Using CFT in particular is always powerful in being able to help people to develop a compassionate mind to help strengthen their compassion skills to help facilitate positive change in their lives.

Elizabeth Forrest

Online, Crosby, Merseyside - L23

I have a passion for mental health and wellbeing.  I am currently running my own private practice – Forrest Talking Therapies – whilst also working as a Senior Lecturer in CBT at the University of Chester.

I started my career as a person-centred counsellor and have spent the last 13 years mainly working as a cognitive-behavioural therapist.  I love working with CFT as this gives me a bridge between the counselling and cognitive behavioural approaches as well as focusing on growth rather than ‘disorder’.

I regularly apply CFT to my own day to day life and have seen it make a meaningful difference to many people I have worked with in my clinic.

Dr Shelley Kerr

226 North Street Southville Bristol, UK, BS3 1JD

I’m a Clinical Psychologist who helps adults who are feeling overwhelmed and self-critical to make sense of their experiences and find workable, sustainable ways to cope, so that they can feel good about themselves and thrive in their lives once more.

I have been working therapeutically with people who struggle with their difficult emotions since 2003. I have helped people who are suffering in all sorts of ways. Despite their different difficulties and lives, all these folk had some things in common. One was that they wanted things to be different yet weren’t able to get there on their own. They had tried so hard, and realised that they needed care to heal and find a way to get unstuck.

It was also clear to me that they were all coping in their own best ways. Sometimes these ways were helpful and sustainable. Other times they found themselves resorting to strategies that weren’t sustainable and sometimes were downright dangerous; overeating, avoiding important things in life, withdrawing, self harming, considering suicide, lashing out and turning to substances.

Often too, they were thinking badly of themselves, feeling ashamed about their struggles and wishing things were different. Even when they had supportive others around them, they often worried about their relationships and weren’t always able to get the care they needed.

The thing is, we could always make sense of their experiences when we considered their feelings and the context. Always. None of these folk were bad, unlovable or broken, no matter how much they believed they were. And it was always possible to build the caring relationships they needed with themselves and with others.

And this is why I know that you too can heal in the way you hope. It is possible to get unstuck from whatever you’re struggling with.

I can’t promise it will be easy. It is sure to take a lot of determination and commitment. Though I do know that it is possible for you to heal, especially if we can create for you a context of compassion.

CFT is my primary model of therapy, and I find it an incredibly helpful approach for my clients, supervisees and myself. I work with adults in private practice at Compassionate Change, in Bristol and online. I am an associate with Balanced Minds, a large CFT practice in London. I previously worked for many years in a specialist NHS service for people presenting with difficulties relating to ‘personality disorder’, and established a CFT pathway for treatment within this service. As well as CFT, I also have experience and expertise in offering DBT and CBT.

Please reach out if you’d like to discuss your needs and let’s consider together whether I would be a helpful therapist for you.

Leandro Pizutti

Av. Cel. Lucas de Oliveira, 505 sala 304 Porto Alegre – RS - Brasil CEP 90450-045

I am a psychiatrist with 22 years of clinical practice. I have been interested in psychotherapeutic care since my medical residency period, and I did my first training as a psychotherapist in psychodynamic therapy, between 2002 and 2005. Between 2009 and 2011, I took a Master’s degree in Health Sciences, studying a population of women with fibromyalgia, and I discovered the Mindfulness-based interventions. In 2014 I started training as a mindfulness teacher, which led me to study mindfulness-based psychotherapies, having completed training in DBT in 2016. Between 2013 and 2017 I did a PhD in Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, studying the impact of an 8-week mindfulness program on healthcare professionals. In 2019 I attended the introductory workshop on CFT with prof. Paul Gilbert, which led me to enter the Diploma in CFT in 2022, now completed in 2023.

I currently see patients in individual psychotherapy within CFT and DBT approaches in a private practice, and I lead 8-week mindfulness groups within Breathworks protocols.

Raimundo Soto

Chillán, Región de Ñuble, Chile. Postal Code 3780000 . (Just working remotely).

I’m a clinical psychologist from Chile, trained in the CFT model and certified trainer of the Compassionate Mind Training (CMT) 8 week program. I’ve been working with CFT since 2019 with different clinical populations, in individual and group settings. It has been a revelation for me to be able to develop a compassionate approach to suffering, integrating the evolutionary understanding of the mind with mindfulness and compassion practices. It has been really useful for working with self critic, anxiety, depression and chronic pain, which are my main areas of expertise. Also I use this model to provide psychedelic integration, teaching emotional regulation skills and a compassionate point of view for those who decide to have a psychedelic experience and need support afterwards.

Currently I’m offering all of my services online: individual psychotherapy, psychedelic integration and also the 8 week CMT program.

Hazel Green

Room 8, 72 Wilson Street, Derby DE1 1PL

Hello and welcome to my profile, my name is Hazel and my job is to help you understand what is making things hard for you and figure out how to make them better.

Often we have one or several problems that cause us distress which is difficult enough but then, because of the way we are wired, we heap on a lot of anxiety and self criticism which makes it all harder to bear. By understanding what is happening in our mind and body we can begin lighten the exhausting burden of shame, critics and anxiety so that we can become more resilient to distress and more connected to positive experiences and feelings.

Compassion Focused Therapy is a unique approach that not only helps us understand our emotions and behaviours but offers tools and practical guidance on how we can take control over our thoughts and experiences and develop better relationships with ourselves and others.

I have been practicing as a counsellor for over five years working in private practice, and the NHS as a palliative care counsellor. I work with a range of difficulties including trauma, abuse, anxiety, depression, neuro-diversity, and relationship problems. I am also a clinical supervisor and I teach counselling. My work is client centred meaning that we work together to figure out what is most important and helpful to you.

We don’t choose our thoughts and feelings but we can change them.

Kate Snewin

Union Street, Stonehouse, Plymouth PL1 3HQ, UK

It takes a lot of courage to seek therapy. You may feel unsure about whether you’re doing the right thing for yourself or your child, that is a very common feeling and one that is understandable. There is no one size fits all in therapy, the most important place to start figuring out what might be helpful is by listening to what you have to say, in your own words, with openness and curiosity. As we start to get to know each other then we can work out together which direction you want to go in.

What I like about CFT is that it isn’t rigid and prescribed, there is flexibility to find what fits each person. It is also really important to me that we work from a place of common ground. As humans, we all struggle at times. However, by using the principles of CFT and utilising our courage, we can move towards what causes us difficulty and find a path through.

I have a lot of experience in working with children, young people and families, however I welcome working with people of all ages. I offer CFT for a variety of difficulties, such as recent or historical  trauma, anxiety, stress, depression, self-criticism, shame, self-esteem difficulties, relationship difficulties, self-harm, bereavement and many more. I run Compassionate Mind Training to groups of young people and also to parents. I also offer training and staff support to organisations such as NHS teams and schools. I am currently training in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), which I will use alongside CFT.

I currently work in a digital mental health service, as well as running my private practice. The majority of my qualified working life has been within eating disorder services, as well as working within complex trauma and dissociation. I have also worked within clinical health psychology.

Although I work using an integrated approach, CFT is the main model I use both for myself and for my clients. As well as using it with individuals, I also provide CFT supervision, teaching and training to professionals.

Sarah Benkwitz – Helping you build a better life
BABCP Accredited CBT Psychotherapist & CFT / ACT / EMDR Practitioner

The search for a contented and satisfying life is not easy. It’s even more difficult if you’re wrestling with a negative inner voice or baggage from your past.
• Are you coasting along feeling ‘ok’, but have forgotten real joy or peace?
• Are you feeling on high alert, struggling to feel good enough, safe, or know who to trust?
• Are you dragging your body out of bed each morning, spending the day wishing you could crawl back under the covers?
• Are you trying to plug a hole deep inside, or find the ground beneath your feet?
• Have you been deeply wounded by a trauma?
I get it.

It isn’t your fault; it’s because the human mind is both a blessing and a curse.

Get to know your body and your mind

Humans have an effective threat response system that can see problems in just about anything and trigger strong feelings. It is helpful if we need to escape from a lion or a mugging, less useful when we feel inadequate in response to an advert full of beautiful people.

It’s natural to find lots of ways to get rid of these feelings, such as kicking yourself to do better or avoid the things that stress you out. It’s so easy to find yourself going round in a circle trying to cope. Your ability to pursue what matters to you, connect with others or soothe yourself quickly escapes out the window.

I’ll help you take back control

I can help you learn how to take back the driver’s seat.

• I will listen to you carefully so that you feel truly understood and can make sense of things.
• We will work together to learn how to care for yourself and calm your systems down.
• We will learn self-acceptance and how to let go of baggage from your past.
• We will spend time working out what matters to you and learn skills for making active choices towards a life about love, satisfaction, and fun.
When you’re willing to give it a go and work at it, you’ll find that you can transform your life in extraordinary ways.

What treatment approaches do I use?

We will work together to tailor your treatment to what you need and want. I interweave CFT (Compassion Focused Therapy) and ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), along with CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and EMDR (trauma treatment). I only use cutting-edge science and gold standard evidence-based therapies according to NICE guidelines, I hold BABCP accreditation, and have specialist supervision.

I want you to feel safe knowing you’re in good hands. If I think you could be better served by something or someone else, I will tell you.

What is my style?

With me, you’ll find someone who genuinely cares about working with you. I respect the courage it takes for you to show up.

Depending on the moment, sometimes you’ll find me gentle, playful, honest and saying it like it is, or encouraging you and celebrating your achievements.

I want you to speak openly with me about how you think things are going, and if there were ever any roadblocks, we’re a team, so I want to work with you on them.

Who I work with:

I specialise in helping adults and children 13+ with:
• Self-criticism and shame,
• Anxiety, depression and stress,
• Complex or longstanding problems, including trauma and those who have had therapy before,
• Pregnant women/early parenthood,
• Therapy for therapists.
I can also offer clinical supervision for practitioners in CFT/ACT/CBT.

Get in touch

Sometimes people hesitate about starting therapy. That’s ok; I understand it can be daunting. I also think that sometimes it’s worse to carry on struggling as you are. It’s a sign of strength when you can face your difficulties.

I invite you to tell me about your concerns, and we can go gently.

How did I become a therapist?

I first started working in this field back in 2007 when I was studying for my Master’s in Psychology at the University of Oxford, as a telephone counsellor. Those I spoke to told me I had a comforting voice, and I should be on the radio or a psychotherapist.

Keen to explore the world after graduating, I first went to London to work in business, and then on to the favelas of South America to work in international development.

It was a formative time in my life, and due to events in my own family, I saw first-hand the impact of psychological distress and just how beneficial psychotherapy can be. I learned what it’s like to look within myself and develop core strength, in the same way, I now teach others. It brought me back ‘home’ to the field of psychology.

After gaining a breadth of experience in community mental health settings and as an academic researcher, I qualified as a CBT Therapist with distinction in 2014. I worked full-time in the NHS, which gave me an incredible professional grounding – before focusing on private practice since 2017.

When I’m not working, you’ll find me outside with my family and our golden retriever, or renovating houses.

Are you ready to build a better life?

Please get in touch today, so that we can get you on your way towards a better life. You can expect a reply within 48 working hours.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Louise Brown

Ministry of Yoga, Crewe, UK

At the points in our lives when it feels like we (or the world around us) is falling apart, we have an opportunity to remake it, to choose those parts that we wish to take with us to build our own future. While counselling does not provide a magic wand or easy fixes, I can offer you space to be curious about what changes are possible for you. A place, to explore your past and present, without judgement, so you can find your future direction.
As an integrative counsellor, who has trained in a range of modalities (person centred, systemic, psychodynamic, compassion focused, CBT and solution focused therapies) I offer a collaborative space where together we will discover the right way of working to help you navigate the changes you wish to see in your life. This may include a traditional counselling space where we explore emotions and events through talking, or you may wish to work with one or more of the creative mediums that I offer in my practice, because sometimes finding the right words can be a barrier to exploration. Because you are the expert on yourself, our way of working will always be decided by you, so while I might invite you to try something different, you are always welcome to decline.

I have experience of working with clients in a range of circumstances, including, but not limited to: loss, LGBTQ+ identities, anxiety and depression. I have previously worked in a variety of settings including statutory and voluntary sector organisations, offering both long-term and short-term work. Whatever your circumstance and the change you wish to make, please do get in touch.

Because I know that connecting with your counsellor is key to the success of therapy, I am happy to offer a free, 20 minute, telephone consultation to see how we might be able to work together before you commit to paid sessions.

Appointments take place in a purpose-built counselling room at The Ministry of Yoga in Crewe. The venue is a short walk from the train station and accessible by public transport. Sessions cost £35 per 50 minute session for counselling and £40 per hour for Supervision. Supervision is offered to counsellors, mentors, and other mental health professionals.

Sara Clarke

I have worked as a counsellor, supervisor and counsellor trainer for over 30 years and am BACP accredited. I have witnessed the emergence of CFT with great relief as it resonates strongly with my own beliefs and values both personally and professionally. I consider it a much needed trans-clinical, trans-theoretical humanistic model. Although I have not yet undertaken any formal training in CFT, I have read widely about the model and it’s applications as well as accessing many on-line learning opportunities. I have integrated many of the principles and strategies of CFT into my clinical work.
I am currently working as a counsellor/educator for a private health provider.

Lexy Rose

Balanced Minds, Terminal House, 52 Grosvenor Gardens, London SW1W 0AU

Lexy has worked with clients experiencing a range of mental health difficulties and distress. Her therapeutic approach focuses on using warmth and curiosity with the aim of supporting clients to develop an understanding about their difficulties, and helpful ways to work with them.

Lexy was drawn to Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) as it focuses on helping us understand psychological pain and distress using ideas from evolutionary psychology, with an emphasis on skills training to develop a ‘compassionate self-identity’. The aim is that, with this knowledge and training, comes the strength and courage needed to turn towards difficulties and live a life with meaning.  Lexy recognises the importance of this approach and brings it to all areas of her daily life.

Lexy’s therapeutic approach is predominately informed by CFT but can also draw on ideas from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, including 3rd wave approaches, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

Lexy’s areas of interest include working with adults with problems with anxiety, depression, self-criticism and longer-standing difficulties. Lexy used to work in the NHS with adults with Learning Disabilities, who may also have had other neurodevelopmental disorders such as Autism Spectrum Disorder. Lexy currently works solely in private practice offering CFT-informed work to individuals and organisations.

Overall, Lexy considers it to be an immense privilege to work in this field and is always guided by the intention to find helpful ways forward for each individual client, appreciating difference and diversity, and adapting the work as needed.

Kari Wolman Killianey

617 Veterans Blvd, Redwood City, CA, USA

I am a clinical psychologist offering individual therapy to adults dealing with depression, anxiety, transitions, and a wide variety of other life stressors. My approach to therapy is collaborative, non-judgmental, and action-oriented. I practice evidence-based treatments drawn from a wide variety of cognitive behavioral therapies, particularly Compassion Focused Therapy. The development and cultivation of compassion for yourself and others is core to my practice as a therapist.

To be compassionate is to be sensitive to suffering in oneself and others, and to be motivated to prevent and alleviate that suffering. A compassionate motivation underpins healing, growth, and strengthening of relationships with oneself and others. You can expect me to model compassion and help you learn how to create a more caring and reassuring relationship with yourself. You can expect my compassionate response and support when things get difficult, and my excitement with you as you celebrate the joys of life.

Petra Malesevic

10000, Zagreb, Croatia

Hello,
I am a psychologist from Croatia (Zagreb) with a MSc degree in Psychology from Charles University in Prague (graduated in 2001 with thesis: „Moral judgment of women and men: Relationship between moral judgment and gender identity”) and a postgraduate certificate in Compassion Focused Therapy from University of Derby (graduated in 2017).
During my Master’s studies I inclined more to biological and experimental side of psychology, being a true lover of behaviourism, evolutionary psychology & ethology and «neuro» subjects. Psychotherapy was my first choice; however, my path has not been straightforward. I spent seven years working in the human resources consulting field of psychology.
In 2011 I decided to change the course of my professional life and started a cognitive-behavioural therapy training. In the second phase of the training I came across Paul Gilbert’s book «Compassion Focused Therapy, Distinctive Features» and felt a strong concordance of thoughts and opinions, reliving my love for the certain ideas and fields of psychology. I read other Paul Gilbert’s books and decided to enrol in the CFT Training Programme at Derby University, wanting to use the chance to learn from the founder of CFT.
Today I work at a private practice in Zagreb and in addition to CFT, I also practice CBT, ACT and MBCT. I hold mindfulness and autogenic training trainings.
I continually educate myself in the field of psychotherapy and psychodiagnostics. I have attended many professional workshops related to CBT, mindfulness, CFT, ACT and psychodiagnostics. I presented at the first CBT conference organised by the Croatian Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Therapies and some other venues in Croatia.
In the past few years, I have been dedicated to bringing CFT to Croatia by intensifying my therapeutic work, giving presentations about CFT at conferences in Croatia and organising CFT introductory workshops and presentations.
My main interests are psychophysiology, neuroscience, attachment styles in adulthood, evolutionary psychology, epigenetics, behaviourism, developmental and social psychology. I take great care of ethics in my work and value a responsible attitude to life and work.
Please, feel free to contact me for any additional information. I’ll be glad to assist.
