Hello, and thank you for taking the time to view my profile. My name is Kathryn, and I am a clinical psychologist based in the West Midlands.
I first started using Compassion Focused Therapy during my clinical psychology doctorate training in 2014, and since then, my passion and enthusiasm for the model have continued to grow. I accessed any introductory level courses that I could, as well as specialist CFT supervision. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to study CFT at diploma level in 2022, where my knowledge of and ability to apply CFT deepened.
During this time, I was working for the NHS in a community mental health team, applying CFT with people who were presenting with a range of difficulties, including trauma, psychosis, depression, anxiety and emotional regulation difficulties. I was able to witness how powerful this model can be, and see the significant, positive impact that it can have on people. I see CFT as a more ‘active’ and creative model of therapy compared to some other models, and I believe that this helps to access parts of the mind that traditional talking therapies may struggle to activate.
In 2024, I began working in an NHS service that was commissioned to work with people who had experienced sexual trauma. People who have experienced sexual trauma often develop high levels of shame and self-criticism as a result of what has happened to them, when of course what they have been through was not their fault. CFT fits very well with this client group, and can help people to bring compassion to themselves, rather than blame. I was able to introduce the model into the service in many different ways; in my individual therapy sessions, through the development of a CFT group programme, delivery of compassion focused staff support sessions, facilitating CFT informed reflective practice and delivery of CFT training. During my work in this service, I also accessed further advanced CFT training with Dr Kate Lucre, including ‘compassion focused therapy for groups’ and ‘advanced compassion focused group psychotherapy’, as well as a CFT supervision course through the Compassionate Mind Foundation.
I am currently offering CFT supervision in either individual or group format. I can offer supervision online, or if you are local to Lichfield we can look into face-to-face options if this is preferred.
Please contact me if you would like any more information or if you would like to discuss the possibility of starting supervision with me. My email address is kathryn@fletcherjonespsychology.co.uk

Compassion Focused Therapy is a central part of my clinical practice. I have completed specialist training in Compassion Focused Therapy through the Compassionate Mind Foundation and continue to deepen my practice through ongoing training and supervision within compassion-focused approaches. Alongside my private practice, I work within NHS Talking Therapies where I am part of a Community Trauma Clinic supporting people who have experienced complex life adversities, including experiences such as childhood abuse, exploitation, and displacement. Within my NHS role I have also facilitated group supervision for therapists delivering Compassion Focused Therapy groups, supporting clinicians to reflect on formulation, develop confidence in compassion-based practices, and think together about the challenges that can arise when working with shame and self-criticism. I also work as an associate therapist with Balanced Minds, delivering Compassion Focused Therapy within their service. In my clinical work Compassion Focused Therapy often provides the central framework. Where helpful, I also draw on CBT, trauma-informed approaches, and EMDR, using compassionate formulation and compassion-based practices to support change. Supervision offers a space to think together about the clinical work, including the moments that can feel uncertain, stuck, or emotionally demanding. I continue to deepen my practice through regular clinical supervision and ongoing professional development within compassion-focused therapy.
Therapists are often drawn to Compassion Focused Therapy when they notice that some of the difficulties their clients experience are rooted in deep patterns of shame, self-criticism, or a sense of not feeling good enough. These patterns can remain difficult to shift using cognitive or behavioural strategies alone.
Compassion Focused Therapy offers a framework for understanding how threat-based emotional systems develop and how we can help clients cultivate greater self-support, warmth, and steadiness from within.
My aim in supervision is to offer a reflective, compassionate space where therapists can slow down and think together about their clinical work. Supervision can be a place to explore compassionate formulation, develop confidence in compassion-based practices, and reflect on the relational processes that unfold within therapy.
I am Chenelle Owen, an accredited Psychological Therapist (BABCP) based in Banstead, Surrey. I offer Compassion Focused Therapy supervision for therapists who would like to deepen their use of CFT in practice. Supervision is available online across the UK and in person in Banstead.
My approach to supervision is collaborative and reflective, grounded in compassion, curiosity, and respect for the complexity of the work we do.
