Overview
Barry is a Masters level clinical social worker whose practice is focused on persons with serious and persistent mental illness. Barry recognized the impact of shame and stigma has on his clients and has been using Compassion Focused Therapy to address these issues as well as anxiety, depression and voice hearing.
Barry has a strong passion for social justice and is working to include compassion based strategies in his community work as well.
At this time, Barry’s professional practice is exclusive to clients of the Department of Mental Health and he is not able to accept outside referrals.

Barry has been working as a clinic social worker since 2014. Barry's training in Compassion Focused Therapy began in 2016 with a copy of Dr. Paul Gilbert's book, "Compassionate Mind Training." He attended Dr. Dennis Tirch's workshop "Foundations of compassion focused therapy and compassion focused ACT for anxiety and depression" and the "Compassionate Mind Summit retreat and workshop" with Dr. Gilbert and Dr. Tirch. He participates in regular CFT supervision with Dr. Tirch. Barry is a member of the International Compassionate Mind Foundation, Compassionate Mind Foundation USA and The Center for Compassion Focused Therapy CFT Consultation Team.
