Overview
You might be someone who feels caught in patterns that are difficult to shift. Perhaps there is a harsh inner critic, feelings of shame, anxiety that keeps returning, or a sense that even when things make sense logically, something inside still feels stuck.
Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) can be especially helpful when difficulties are linked to self-criticism, perfectionism, trauma, or long-standing patterns of feeling not good enough. Rather than focusing only on changing thoughts, CFT helps us understand how our experiences shape the way we relate to ourselves and how we can begin developing a more supportive and compassionate inner voice.
In therapy we take time to gently make sense of your experiences and the patterns that may have developed over time. Often the difficulties people experience make understandable sense when we look at what they have been through. Together we develop a compassionate understanding of these experiences and patterns, and gradually begin building new ways of responding to yourself that feel steadier, kinder, and more supportive.
I am Chenelle Owen, an accredited Psychological Therapist (BABCP) based in Banstead, Surrey. Compassion Focused Therapy is often the central approach in my work. Where helpful, I also integrate elements of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), trauma-informed approaches, and EMDR.
I work with adults, teenagers, and children and support people experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma-related difficulties, shame, perfectionism, self-criticism, and low self-esteem.
I offer evidence-based therapy in person in Banstead, Surrey, as well as online across the UK.
Reaching out for therapy can feel like a big step, and you will always be met with warmth, care, and respect.

Compassion Focused Therapy is a central part of the way I work. I have completed specialist training in Compassion Focused Therapy through the Compassionate Mind Foundation and continue to deepen my practice through ongoing training and supervision within compassion-focused approaches. Alongside my private practice, I also work within NHS Talking Therapies, where I am part of a Community Trauma Clinic supporting people who have experienced complex life adversities, including experiences such as childhood abuse, exploitation, and displacement. Compassion Focused Therapy provides a powerful framework for understanding patterns of shame and self-criticism. Together we explore how our minds can become caught in cycles of threat, pressure, or emotional shutdown, and how we can begin strengthening the parts of ourselves that help us feel steadier, calmer, and more supported from within. In my clinical work Compassion Focused Therapy often provides the central framework. Where helpful, I also draw on CBT, trauma-informed approaches, and EMDR, using compassionate formulation and compassion-based practices to support change. I continue to deepen my practice through regular clinical supervision and ongoing professional development within compassion-focused therapy.
