Harper West, M.A., L.L.P., (www.HarperWest.co) is a licensed psychotherapist in Clarkston, Michigan. She graduated from Michigan State University in journalism and worked in corporate communications, later earning a degree in clinical psychology from Michigan School of Professional Psychology. Ms. West is trained in Mindful Self-Compassion and specializes in helping individuals improve compassionate self-acceptance, strengthen self-worth, manage fear and shame, and develop mindfulness. Ms. West has completed an Externship and an additional level of advanced training in Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFCT). She has written extensively on self-compassion as the treatment for shame intolerance, including in her book Self-Acceptance Psychology. The paradigm she developed challenges the biological model of mental disorders and reframes emotional problems as adaptive responses to fear, trauma, shame, and lack of secure attachment. Her self-help book “Pack Leader Psychology” won an Independent Book Publishers Association Ben Franklin Award for Psychology. She is co-author of the #1 bestselling book, “The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump: 27 Psychiatrists and Mental Health Professionals Assess a President.” Ms. West was trained in Transcendental Meditation in 1978, has a 20-year daily yoga practice, and practiced mindful running for 30 years.
